Sadie Lenora Mountcastle, 84, of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Hospice Center in Centreville, Md., after a two year battle with neck cancer. She was an avid collector of dolls and master of crossword puzzles. In the spring, neighbors were bound to find her tending her abundant garden. Catherine Nixon Wyant, 88

Catherine Nixon Wyant, 88, formerly of Chesapeake, Va., passed away on July 23, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Joy W. Boone, in Lewes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Wyant, and her brother, Curtis R. Nixon Jr. She is survived by her son, Taylor R. Wyant; daughter, Joy W. Boone; brother, Howard E. Nixon; grandchildren, Michael E. Wyant, Andrea and Paul Caswell, and Karen and Steven Lones; six great-grandchildren, and 11 of her “other children,” who referred to her as “Mother Catherine.”

A gravesite memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton, Del.

Anthony Robert Richard ‘Tony’ Simmons, 48

Anthony Robert Richard “Tony” Simmons, 48, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on July 23, 2010, at home.

Tony was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Millsboro, AM Vets and Pot Nets Home Owners Association. He had been a manager in plastics manufacturing and enjoyed fishing, crabbing and rebuilding things, and was always busy. He was a loving and caring person who was always there for anyone who was in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Francis and Ella Louise Gray Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Denise Simmons; brother, John Simmons of Wilmington, Del.; sisters Patricia Salkowitz of Seaford, Del., Linda Harvey of Lewes, Del., step-sister, Jeanne Banks of Boothwyn, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and –nephews, and extended family and friends; and his beloved canine friend and adopted “son,” Baby Blue.

A prayer service was scheduled for Friday, July 30, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home at 211 South Washington St., Millsboro, where friends could call one hour prior.

Genevieve M. ‘Gene’ Langhorst, 79

Genevieve M. “Gene” Langhorst, 79, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Gaithersburg and Rockville, Md., and Yonkers, N.Y., passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.

Langhorst was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Millsboro. She was a past president of the Sussex County Republican Women’s Club and Millsboro Women’s Civic Club, Sussex County membership chairman of the DSFWC, treasurer of the Mace and Gavel unit of the NAP, and a member of the Columbiettes #11285.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Newton DeWitt and Catherine Keenan LeFevre, and her husband, William J. Langhorst. She is survived by her son, William J. Langhorst Jr. of Arlington, Va., and many cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Monday, July 26, 2010, at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Georgetown, Del., with interment to follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

William Barnes ‘Barney’ Hall Jr., 81

William Barnes “Barney” Hall Jr., 81, of Fenwick Island, Del., formerly of Baltimore and Ocean City, Md., died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at home.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City. He was a former member of the Ocean City Lions Club, Ocean City Fire Department and Ocean City Elementary School PTA, where he served as past president, and he was formerly active in the Ocean City Boy Scouts of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Hall Sr. and Dorothy (Davis) Hall and a brother, Timothy Hall. He is survived by his wife, Anne Carroll “Nancy” Hall of Fenwick Island, three sons, William B. Hall III of Fenwick Island, and Scott P. Hall and J.H. Lee Hall both of Ocean City; a daughter, Carroll L. Ward of Dayton, Va.; a brother, Thomas Hall of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Sandra Hancock of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Jody Anglin of Urbanny, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Thursday, July 29, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City.

Charlotte Franklin Gum, 70

Charlotte Franklin Gum, 70, of Selbyville, Del., passed away at her home on Thursday, July 22, 2010. Gum was a retired lab technician at Townsend’s Hatchery.

In addition to her parents, Charles and Edna (Birch) Franklin, she was also preceded in death by her son, Mike Fisher, and daughter, Rita Scanlon. She is survived by her daughter, Dannette R. Clark of Dagsboro; brother, Albert “Ab” Franklin; sister, Sallie Littleton; and six grandchildren, Travis, Kevin, Steven, Colin, Dylan and Justin.

A funeral service was scheduled for Monday, July 26, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services with burial to take place at Millsboro Cemetery.

Florence M. Gray, 74

Florence M. Gray, 74, of Frankford, Del., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. She had been an activities assistant at Treasure Beach Campground near Fenwick Island for 11 years.

Gray was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna (McMaster) Clark; her husband, Merrill A. Gray; and a daughter, Terry M. Gray. She is survived by three daughters, Margaret Young of Panama Beach, Fla., Mary A. Pucci of Ocean View, Del. and Donna M. Joseph of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Grace Wingate Hudson, 83

Grace Wingate Hudson, 83, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known for her green thumb. Her yard was a riot of color from the first blooms of Spring to the last breath of Fall.

Hudson was preceded in death by her parents, William C.Wingate and Virginia Brittingham Wingate; and her husband, George William Hudson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn Dukes and Harry Dukes; her grandchildren, Amy Dukes Brothers and husband Col. Keith A. Brothers, Adel Dukes Melson and Adam Harry Dukes; her great grandchildren, Alfred Melson and Hudson Brothers; and three siblings, Marie Wingate Mitchell, Lemuel Wingate, and Faye Wingate Daisey.

Services are set for Monday, July 19, at 10 a.m. at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, DE 19945. The visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the services at St. George’s United Methodist Cemetery in Clarksville, Del.

Sylvia L. Leinbach, 76

Sylvia L. Leinbach, 76, of Millsboro, Del., passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. She worked for Bell of Pennsylvania retiring as a supervisor in Dial Administration in 1984 after 33 years of service. After retiring to Delaware she enjoyed the water especially boating with her loving husband. She was a member of the Homeowners Association of Bay City and the Verizon Telecom Pioneers-Reading Club. She was also a member of Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes, Del. Even though she was a member for a short time, at the church she was welcomed warmly by the congregation. She touched the lives of many who knew her and will be sadly missed by all.

Leinbach was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel H. and Deborah (Hartline) McCoy; and her husband, Donald R. Leinbach. She is survived by three brothers, Richard D. McCoy and his wife Marion of Reading, Pa., Eugene E. McCoy and his wife Marlene of Lewes, Del. and Terrence H. McCoy and his wife Joyce of Birdsboro, Pa.; and her loving nieces and nephews.

Services are set for Tuesday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the Groome United Methodist Church, 600 Savannah Rd. and Dewey Ave., Lewes, Del. 19958. Interment will be in Reading, Pa. Nowland Bouchelle Ellison "Hopps," 91

Nowland Bouchelle Ellison "Hopps", 91, of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at home in the loving arms of his daughter and wife. He worked for Conowingo Power, a division of Philadelphia Electric Co. and was a dedicated employee for over thirty-five years. He was a faithful member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, until moving to Bethany Beach, where he attended St. Martha's Episcopal Church. While always an avid bowler, in 1971, he had a lifelong dream come true, when he bowled a perfect game of "300".

Ellison was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Larken and Daisy Bouchelle Ellison; his brothers, Clayton Augustus and Harry Griffith Ellison. He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Betty R. Ellison; her extended family, Jane Morgan; grandchildren, Christine, John, Michael, and David;
his first wife of forty-four years, Evalyn G. Ellison; their daughter, Darcia Bachkosky and her husband David; and their son, Joshua.

Services are set for Saturday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m., at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, Bethany Beach, DE 19930. In lieu of flowers, his family kindly suggests, giving the gift of life, by donating to the Blood Bank of Delaware, in Ellison's memory.

Raymond L. Marvel, 89

Raymond L. Marvel, 89, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Selbyville Elks Lodge. Before his retirement, he had owned and operated Ray’s Selbyville Arco Service Station for 32 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.

Marvel was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Kendall and Laura (Littleton) Marvel. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Marvel; one son, Ray Marvel of Timonium, Md.; four daughters, Anise Price of Selbyville, Del.; Terri Hastings of Georgetown, Del.; Dawn Marvel-Beck of Frankford, Del. and Mary Beth Parker of Millsboro, Del.; two brothers, Elwood Marvel of Ocean View, Del., and Ernest Marvel of Frankford, Del.; three sisters, Hilda Parker of Georgetown, Del., Elva Brittingham of Oak Orchard, Del. and Marguerite Stevens of Dagsboro, Del.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Raymond J. “Ray” Hunt, 86

Raymond J. “Ray” Hunt, 86, of Denton, Md., passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Envoy Center in Denton, Md. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Campaign and China; he was a gunner and was Honorably Discharged as a Technical Sergeant. He later worked for the U.S. Government in Civil Service as a Mechanical Inspector at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, N.C. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro, Del., past member of the Sussex Central Ruritan, enjoyed being a driver of the CHEER bus, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.Raymond J. “Ray” Hunt, 86Raymond J. “Ray” Hunt, 86

Mary Louise ”Mary Lou” Tate, 71

Mary Louise ”Mary Lou” Tate, 71, of Boca Raton, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Hospice By The Sea in Boca Raton, Fla. She and her husband, Jim, previously owned Ocean Realty in Ocean City.

Tate was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene (Bardo) Graziani; her husband, James E. Tate Sr.; and a son, William G. Creelman Jr. She is survived by two sons, Gary Tate of Boynton Beach, Fla. and James Tate Jr. of Weston, Fla.; a daughter, Kathe Crosariol of Selbyville, Del.; a sister, Dolores Beers of Selbyville, Del.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Charles L. Wright, 72

Charles L. Wright, 72, of Fenwick Island, Del., passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. He was raised in Washington, D.C. and was a loyal Redskin fan. He served his country in the Army National Guard and the U.S. Air Force. He was a 1965 graduate of Benjamin Franklin University and had a long career in Financial Management. He had been active in the Prince Georges County Democratic Party and served eight years on the Central Committee. In recent years he worked for the Delaware State Parks.

Wright was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Wright Sr. and Suzanne Reluga Wright. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Mary (Fraser) Wright; a son, Matthew Charles Wright; two daughters, Tracy Wright and Kristan Wimbish and her husband Paul; three grandchildren, James Cavanaugh, Elizabeth Cavanaugh and Kyle Wimbish; two sisters, Barbara O’Neel and Linda Akowski; numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Robert V. “Bob” West, 79

Robert V. “Bob” West, 79, of Georgetown, Del., passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. He worked for Townsend’s Inc., Millsboro, Del. as a supervisor of poultry processing and many other duties for many years retiring in 1992 then he worked part time until 2009 for NAPA in Georgetown, Del. to stay busy. He attended St. John’s United Methodist Church and Zoar United Methodist Church where he sang with the St. John’s Quartet and the Zoar Trio. Margaret M. Lynch, 86

Margaret M. Lynch, 86, of Selbyville, Del., passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. She was born Dec. 29, 1923.

Lynch was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Stella Rickards; her loving husband of 60 years, Arthur Lynch, Sr.; her brother, Ronald Rickards; sisters, Mildred Littleton, Pauline West, Rosetta Chandler, Rosa-Lea Furbush; and a great granddaughter, Allison Ann Lewis. She is survived by her son, Arthur Lynch, Jr. and his wife Joan; daughters, Gail Hawkins and her husband Sonny, Linda Moore and her husband George, Barbara Joseph and her husband Lee; grandchildren, Wendy Murray and her husband Keith, Stacey Lewis and her husband Dean, Mark and Jackie Joseph, Jennifer Carey and her husband Scott; great grandchildren, Kaylin and Leanne Murray, Dylan and Dalton Lewis, Lindsay Lathbury, Racquel and Jarrett Joseph, Reid and Rylie Carey; sisters, Thelma Wells and Jean McCabe and long time friend Violet Snyder.

Richard A. "Dick" Kelly

Richard A. "Dick" Kelly, formerly of Mavern, Pa., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center, surrounded by his loved ones. As a young man he served in in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Valley Forge and USS Tarawa. He was a diesel mechanic receiving his certificate from Ford Motor Company in 1960, held an executive position for the Teamster's Local 312 in Chester, Pa. until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement he was employed by Oyster Bay Bait and Tackle to support his fishing passion which he shared with his children, grandchildren and his wife.
He was well known as the "Old man of the Sea"

Kelly was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashly E. Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Elizabeth "Libby"; five children, Patricia Kelly of Malvern, Pa., Edward Kelly (Karen) of Essington, Pa., Richard Kelly, Jr. of Malvern, Pa., Michael Kelly of Malvern, Pa. and Naomi Hersh (Bryon) of Spring City, Pa.; his grandchildren, Dylan Kelly of Malvern, Pa., Michael Kelly of Glenmoore, Pa., Sterling Kelly of Malvern, Pa., Stephen Brown of Malvern, Pa. and Megan Kelly of Glenmoore, Pa.

Ursula Delores Foshay, 67

Ursula Delores Foshay, 67, of Laurel, Del., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. She graduated from Fordham University with a degree in English in 1963. She was an elementary school teacher for the Prince George’s County Public Schools for several years. After raising her three children, she took a job answering telephones and the headquarter offices of Giant Food in Landover, Md. She worked in management at Giant Food for over 20 years, eventually rising to the position of director in the company’s construction and maintenance divisions. She retired and moved to Dagsboro, Del. in 1995 where she joined St. Ann’s parish in Bethany Beach. She loved to travel the world, she lived an exemplary life and the people she touched were immensely better for it.

Foshay was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Arnold Quinn. She is survived by her loving husband, Harry Foshay; her three devoted sons, Thomas William Quinn and his wife Danette of Basking Ridge, NJ; Timothy Lawrence Quinn and his wife Stacy of Centreville, Md.; and Brian Michael Quinn and his wife Ida of Baltimore, Md.; and five cherished grandchildren.

John W. Walls Jr., 85

John W. Walls Jr., 85, of near Millville, Del., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center of Milford, Del. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the citizens of the State of Delaware for 20 years with the Delaware State Police, retiring as Staff Captain. Upon retirement from the state police, he was employed as the safety director of Nu - Car Carriers and as a country gentleman for Cracker Barrel Restaurants. He lived a full life and especially enjoyed traveling, relaxing in Florida during the winter months, and spending time with his family and his grandsons, Johnny and Jimmy. He had many fond memories during his time with the State Police but he was especially proud of the role he played in the renovation of Camp Barnes. He served on the Board of Directors of Camp Barnes, was a member of the Association of Retired Delaware State Police, an active member of the VFW Post 7234, a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge. Edward E. “Eddie” Summerville, Jr., 50, of near Millsboro, Del., passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Midway Baptist Church, Lewes, Del. He was very sensitive and devoted to his daughters and grandson; he was always coming up with beautiful and pleasant surprises for his mom. His hobbies were computers and bowling and when he knew someone needed help he was there.

Summerville was preceded in death by his father, Edward E. Summerville, Sr.. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Ann Brunk Edlen of Millsboro, Del.; two daughters, Barbara Jean Lane and her husband Timothy Joe of Spokane, Wash.,;and Lindsay Anne Summerville of San Antonio, TX; grandson, Ian Malone Lane; special friends, Christopher and Susan Armontrout; and numerous extended family
members, friends across the country and his co-workers.

Services were set for Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church, 21265 John J. Williams Hwy, Lewes, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Gary J. Hayden will officiate the service. Interment with honors will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro, Delaware.
